FOR A PROBLEM THAT HAS JUST OCCURRED
ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM RIGHT NOW, IN THE MOMENT!

When there is a problem, most often there is an emotional response due to what we are saying to ourselves about the problem.  We must address this first or we won't be able to properly engage the higher brain to solve the problem.  That is the key point of this page - then you can link into the form that will guide you in your quick response problem solving process.

"You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it." Einstein (Article)

I.  CALM DOWN AND GROUND ONESELF

CALM THE ALARM, RETURN TO HOMEOSTATIC BALANCE

Breathe.  4+ times: breathe in deeply and slowly and then just let the air go in a kind
of looooong sigh (if you're alone do it outloud)
Possibly after the grounding process below, but perhaps before using the forms.
   Eat, hydrate.
Exercise - Possibly, as it generates energy and endorphins to feel better; activates
      brain.
Rejuvenate, rest:  To recover capability and psychological energy reserves.

LABEL THE EMOTION:  What I'm feeling is ______

  (__ fear; __ anger; __ despair; __ incapable; __ screwed up, etc.)

ADDRESS THE BELIEF/THOUGHT/EMOTION:

This is just a momentary problem that will not even be remembered a year from now.
This occurred because of a poor/unworkable strategy I used; I am in no way flawed, as I am a basically capable human being. And I can learn what is needed to learn how to do something better.

QUESTION THE BELIEF/THOUGHT:

Is it really true?  Is it really provably true?
Am I really threatened or am I still safe overall in life?  Is this just an inconvenience?  Is this just a bonus in life that I am losing?  Am I still intact?
Am I just using a poor strategy that needs to be corrected?  Doesn't this just mean I need to learn something?

FIRM UP WHO I AM

I am fully capable.  I am safe.  I am ok.  I will do what I need and choose to do.  This is just a part of life and I'll handle it, cheerfully!  I will learn what I need and solve this!  And I will gradually eliminate all major problems!

II.  THEN, GO ABOUT SOLVING THE PROBLEM

Once you are calmed down, just use the "in the moment forms" on the page:  Problem-Solving Forms Contents/Links.     If you are calm enough, then you can go through the forms that take you through the whole process.
____________________________________________________________

Possible, but not required reading.  Primarily for grounding in the basic problem solving process.  You may just want to "get on with it" and just use the forms immediately.

The path out always has the same elements (always in writing):

Identify the problem.
Identify the result you want.
Identify what is needed to get to the result.
Identify what needs to be learned in order to be able to implement successfully.
Identify who can help and resources that help
Plan out what you'll do, in writing
Do sufficient learning that is complete enough to be able to meet the test of sufficiently
being able to do what is needed to get the result you want.
If you stop short, you will very probably not succeed; wishful thinking and hope do
       not often win.
Do enough to get the results you want.
Cheerlead, celebrate, acknowledge self along the way.
Reward yourself in a positive-effect way for your success

Although all parts are important, no human being can succeed without sufficient learning, which means sticking with each subject until learned.  If you know what must be learned, put them in order and then commit at least a month (or so) to focus on that one topic and don't quit until you can answer this in the affirmative:  Have I learned enough to be able to successfully implement my learning and get the result I want?  Stopping short is always the path to not succeeding.  (Duh!)

If you can anticipate a problem occurring, you would apply this process to it, if you are wise:  Problem Type I - Recurring Momentary Needs, Poor Responses.

A "problem" is only a problem if one perceives the threat as "big" and/or one becomes critical of oneself.  Accordingly, one needs to know and/or engage in:

Differentiating As To What Is A Real Threat
- Eliminating the 99+% of fears that are not legitimate.

No Fault, No Blame - Eliminate the "killer" paradigm that kills one's spirit and self esteem.

Understand these and you'll not have emotional responses of any consequences to a problem!
