HOW TO LIVE THE GREATEST "Z" LIFE
INCREASING FREQUENCY AND/OR "ENERGY  CONCENTRATION"

Living a "Z" life, one that goes through the stratosphere... a simple why and how.  The "Z" life is living "In The Zone", that area in surfing life that in between the wave crashing upon you and your shooting forward along the wave for the greatest ride of your life, lived with the skill to do so and the clarity of what life is all about.  In surfing, it is called "shooting the curl".

If we add knowledge to our lives at a constant rate, we will find that our growth will compound.  Let's say we grow at 2% each time we do a growth spurt.  If we use our start point as 100%, after 1 growth spurt we will be at 102%, then we will be at 104.4% - in the second round we did not grow at 2% of our original knowledge, we grew at 4.4%.  The reason?  We grew off of a bigger accumulated base - and 2% times a bigger and bigger number results in a bigger effect each time.  Knowledge tends to "synergize" where one bit of knowledge will all of a sudden enhance the uses of another bit of knowledge so we end up with what is called a 2 + 2 = 5 effect.  This is where the whole (the effect) becomes greater than the sum of the parts (2 + 2).  Read and understand Compounding And Accumulating In Life - A Key Concept For Better Life Decisions and Using Synergy To Rapidly Gain In Life, Rather Than Living Additively.

If we do not do any growth, our life looks like the x line of living life.

If we do occasional growth, then we have some bopping up time, and life gets better, as in the "Y" curve.

But, if we have the choice (and we do), wouldn't it make sense to have life go upward like the "Z" curve that leads to a far, far greater life, one that is not even in the vicinity of the "Y" curve?

If we learn to gain this perspective on life on how life can grow, we will choose the "Z" curve, as nothing else even compares.

So, using this idea of compounding growth or the "exponential" curve that keeps on accelerating upward at an increasing pace (with no more effort!), how can we best gain the "Z" advantage?

Know also that "continuity" of education makes a huge difference, so that one does not stop and lose momentum.

And then to be most cumulative in nature, it is generally better to concentrate effort and following hours on just one cumulative topic at a time.  You tend to remember what the previous lesson was and then are able to tie in (for better memory) pieces of the current reading with it.

And what follows is what happens if a person does not take the opportunity.

What is your choice going to be? (Read the links from this piece and then, and only then, make the informed choice.)

AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT CAN HAPPEN ON THE DOWNSIDE OF THIS:
THE MAN WHO STOPPED GROWING

One brilliant fellow I know was an incredible learner early on.  Then he got caught up in being so busy that he did not have hardly any time to really grow.  Yes, as he was a super-achiever, he did take forays here and there to add knowledge, but he seldom assimilated it and used it to grow with - he became a fountain of knowledge, but failed to add the growth he could have to his life.  (See Authentic, Effective, Real Learning.)  So he stayed stuck like a hamster in his wheel, stuck on the treadmill of his life, attempting to go faster and faster, barely stopping for a rest, unless forced to.

He was like the older lumberjack trying to compete with a younger lumberjack who put more thought into growth.  He tried to saw down as many trees as he could, without pausing between trees.  And, yes, he did have alot of trees chopped down, but he had no time left for life - sad, but true, of so many people in life.

The pity of it was that he seemed to not even see it, though occasionally he would say how awful it was and how he wanted to change, to get out of the constant work and stress - but little happened, as he was a man driven to achieve and to get approval.  But he, as you might guess and "everybody knows", overworked, leaving little time for life - and he considered life and taking care of himself to be a bother, a "delay" or "interruption" that got in the way of chopping down more trees.  Yes, sad, but true.

His younger "competitor" however had learned a simple "secret":  that if you strategically paused to sharpen your saw, you would be able to chop down 2 or 3 or 4 times as many trees in the same time AND that one could do it with less effort and stress.  And he knew that life was not about chopping down lots of trees, but actually only chopping down "enough" trees and then going on to doing what was far more valuable than chopping down another tree:  to live a better life.   He had plenty of time to apply his saw sharpening to life and as a consequence to live his life better - and he had plenty of time to do all of this, for each part to "chop down" in life became easier and easier in his life .

Indeed, the older lumberjack (always) has a super opportunity to get off the treadmill to sharpen his saw...  but he could only fit in a bit here and there and kept on insisting he had to overstress himself, instead, by meeting all the contracts for trees that he kept obligating himself to.

Of course, he always had a reason for why he had to do it and why he couldn't get off the treadmill - all of them were reasonable, but they failed to consider things from a higher perspective.  He gave up far more than he got.

Yes, his customers admired how he could possibly have so many contracts and get so much done, though they at times thought he was a bit nuts to do that.

And, he said, "well, I can't afford to alienate any of them and I must keep my reputation up in the industry, as more people might come to me and then I'll be able to produce more trees (the equivalent in his mind of having more power, though it was a false not-thought-out belief).   And, if a customer wanted something extra, especially a new customer asking for a rush order that only he could provide (as nobody else was willing to sacrifice their lives for), he accommodated them.

And, of course, this great guy lived a life of stress, anxiety, misery, hard work and had a life where he was not taking care of the first priority that all wise people know is of the most value.

His emotional well-being (and physical to some extent) was a mess.  Think about it - his very highest value item in life was sacrificed for more trees - though he promised, to no effect, that he would be cutting down on his cutting down trees as soon as these contracts were over (but inevitably he added more, often because others convinced him, over his own objections, that they needed him to produce the chopped trees...).

And, of course, as is always true in such circumstances, the second highest value in almost everyone's life is to have a great relationship, including giving value to one's partner (and family, too).

The value of one's emotional well-being is surely a "10" (or more), while the value of the key relationship must surely be a "9" (or more), as it helps lead to life satisfaction and sharing and connection at a very unique, high level.

Yet, on a scale of 1 up to10, each of those areas was about a "2".

However, he was not quite aware of this and probably would say they weren't "that bad" and might rate them a 5 or 6.

But he is not to be blamed for this, as he lacks the knowledge and understanding to distinguish and understand well what is going on in life.  It seems he stopped the growth in those areas many years ago.  As a result, he is unable to garner emotional intelligence and relational intelligence to use to evaluate those areas and to effectively navigate in them.  Instead, he continues to live life analogically in terms of living Groundhog Day, while he is living the life of a gradually boiling frog, who gets to the end of his life and looks back and regrets much of what he missed.  Of course, you've heard the equivalent, no man ever looks back and regrets not chopping down more trees.

He did not know what "enough" was in his life...

To do well in his life, he could not continue, surely, to continue on with no change at all, and he "knew" that.  However, he didn't really "get it", as he aimed to be able to have it all, to chop lots of trees, perhaps not renew a contract here and there as part of his commitment to growth - he engaged in "gradualism" and pretty much got nowhere.  He could not really see that this is an emergency situation and that he should jump out of the boiling pot right now before more boiling...

His only salvation would be to stop, free up his time and then dedicate that to do the maximum on the learning and applying that to life to experience more life as he goes.

If he frees up enough time will he be able to catch up for many missed years of learning and living?

Yes, as we've seen, if we focus and do growth with more frequency, we can grow in a year more than most people grow in their entire lives and in two years he could be living at 10 times greater of a life than after the end of the first year.

Will he?

He has been putting off life until "later" for a long, long time, but, it seems, "later" never arrives (as it would be impossible...).

It is not that he doesn't want to live his "true values", but he is losing to his conflicting emotional drivers of guilt, having to get approval, proving himself, an addiction to busyness...and a number of others...

I hope and pray that this all turns out, before it is too late... (See in the sidebar how this is urgent and life can no longer afford to be frittered away, as if one has a terminal disease.)

Compounding And Accumulating In Life - A Key Concept For Better Life Decisions

and
Using Synergy To Rapidly Gain In Life, Rather Than Living Additively.

HOW THE NUMBERS WORK
FAIRLY EASY TO FOLLOW

If we grow 2% a year, compared to someone who grows 1% a year, after 10 years, the first will result in arriving at 122% of the starting level.  At 1% a year, the result is 110.5%.   If we grow at 5% a year, after 10 years, we will be at 163%, 6 times the 1%.

Note however that if we increase the # of times per year that we grow at 5% from 1 per year to 1 per month, we will grow to 179% in one year (more than 10 years at 5%!).

If someone can ordinarily learn at 2% per period of effort, he/she can increase the percentage per year by "learning more efficiently and/or more effectively".

If people follow an expert, systematized learning process, the rate of growth in learning can increase immensely, to easily more than 5 times as much and probably more the 10 times as much.  That would be at a rate of 20% per period, which if done monthly for a year would amount to 892% of the original.  (Forget about the numbers themselves, just notice the incredibly increased progress one can make.)

The point is in one focused year where one spends what one normally spends in learning for a year and does it systematically, with an expert providing the input, one can grow far more in one year than he would have grown in 10 years (or more) than most gradual learners grow in a lifetime.

If a person lives a "Z" life, he/she balances,  "in the Zone", his/her learning with living life - but each year his/her use of time is better and better so that he/she experiences much more value out of life AND learns far more so that this value grows amazingly (exponentially, compounding).

I've included how the numbers work, on the right, as some people have an aversion to doing 'the work' necessary to understand the numbers and/or don't think they can.  The numbers are understandable, so it is most probably a good idea for all readers to go through and get the basic idea of   how greatly the numbers can be increased by a few basic maneuvers and/or changes.

The maneuvers are, with the increasing effect of each (in terms of 100% of the workable knowledge one has started with:

Change how often one does learning:  400%

Change the "method" of learning:  9+ times

The combined effect: In one year, one can learn easily more than  even good learners do in 10 years and even far more than most people learn in a lifetime.
To live in the "Zone"

Live in the Emotion "Zone" of high effectiveness in life.

Live in the Health/Energy/Physical "Zone" of high functioning and feeling good.  (Homeostasis)

And most of all, live in the "Zone" that enables all of the above to happen, for sure, guaranteed.  Follow The Path To The Greatest Life, building life soundly through Directed Effective Learning of Life Capability, so that you can create the greatest "life value." out of living life!

Are we picking on him - is it really urgent?

Are we being unfair to the person who has always put off real life and learning it for so long, by being relentless in urging him to dump as much as is possible to clear the space for the catching up in life?

That person might think that I Can Have It All, no hurry, I can fit it all in.  Wanna bet!!!

If the person is "older", the person will have fewer years left and have the same sentence as a person who is told that he has a disease and has only a limited, but not known exactly, number of years to live.  Should he "gradually" shift his life, essentially continuing to lose it to making more money or chopping down more trees when instead he could live the "gold" of life

"But...but...", he'll say, "it's only a few months" [or years]...I'll have plenty of time...later...

Shall we dispute that and risk ticking him off or having him be "insulted"... and being an irritation rather than a help?  It's a delicate balance, but we have to ask ourselves "which choice is being more true to oneself", despite the risk?

Read these chapters from this book

Of course, you should read the whole book, but for now, read these chapters from Covey's classic The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People:

Habit 7: Sharpen The Saw (Watch video, 2:48)

Inside-Out Again

"By living Habit 7, you preserve and enhance the greatest asset you have: YOU.   This is the single, most powerful investment we can ever make in life...investment in ourselves in the only instrument we have with which to deal with life and to contribute.  We are the instruments of our own performance...and to be effective, we need to recognize the importance of taking time regularly  to sharpen the saw in all four ways.

Level of learning?

Yes, you can just read this piece and "get" the idea, but, I think, there is much value in going deeper, reading all the links and tying them together as a "student of life" seeking to get a higher grade in the journey of life.
